In 2008, the global diabetes community rallied for the second time behind the call to light iconic landmarks and buildings in blue to mark World Diabetes Day. A total of 1107 monuments were lit as beacons of hope for the millions of people worldwide living with diabetes. Over 1.2 billion people were reached with campaign messages.

In 2009, our aim is to exceed the success of the 2008 campaign and have a greater number of monuments and iconic buildings light up to mark World Diabetes Day.
