London Eye first to light up the skyline!
On 9 November, the British Airways London Eye and Shell Tower became the first of the world's iconic landmarks to light up in blue to mark the first United Nations World Diabetes Day. Over 190 more will light up on 14 November and in the remaining days leading up to it.
In a statement issued to mark the lighting of the London landmarks, Diabetes UK Chief Executive declared that, "Diabetes UK is delighted to be supporting World Diabetes Day and the lighting up of famous monuments in London. The UN Resolution was an extremely meaningful step in working with governments and communities across the world to ensure that the millions of people with the condition get the best care and treatment possible."
Pictures of the lighting were submitted to the World Diabetes Day Flickr (www.flickr.com) pool, and we encourage anyone who witnesses a World Diabetes Day lighting in their town or city to do the same. For information on how to go about this, visit World Diabetes Day in Pictures.
