Ledbury Rotarians bringing diabetes to light and foot care to the Caribbean
Our friends at the Rotary Club of Ledbury, UK, will light up Ledbury’s iconic Market House to support this year’s World Diabetes Day campaign.
Rotarians from the club and its district (1100) have been involved in award-winning projects to improve foot care for people with diabetes in the Caribbean (find out more from http://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.asp?ClubID=609). In Tobago, working with local partners and external expertise, they helped build the resources to ensure that 3,750 people with diabetes received foot-care education and treatment. This led to a significant reduction in amputations and to the adoption as well as partial funding of the project by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago.
Now the Rotary Club of Ledbury are teaming up with the International Diabetes Federation, the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot and local champions to roll out foot-care education programmes across the region.
