Banting Cairn to light up in blue for World Diabetes Day

Banting CairnIn Canada, the 5 ton, globe-shaped Cairn which is located at the front of the farm where Sir Frederick Banting was born on November 14 1891 will be illuminated by a blue ring of lights to mark the first United Nations observed World Diabetes Day. The Cairn represents the impact of the discovery of insulin on world health.

Frederick Banting's birthplace is located in the town of New Tecumseth (formerly Alliston) Ontario. The Alliston Lions Club, under the direction of president Hart Holmstrom, will be conducting a candle light vigil in front on the Cairn on the evening of November 14.
