Professor Nigishi Hotta is currently a Vice-President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). He is also Emeritus Professor at the Nagoya University School of Medicine and Director-General of the Japan Labor Health and Welfare Organization, Chubu Rosai Hospital.

Professor Hotta has been involved with IDF for many years, most notably as IDF Vice-President (2003-2006) and Editor-In-Chief of Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice (2003-2008), the official journal of the IDF Western Pacific Region.

At the national level, Professor Hotta is a Member of the Board of the Japan Diabetes Society and the Japanese Association for Diabetes Care and Education.
