Desert Dingo rides again
Desert Dingo Racing is headed to Mexico for the Baja 1000 for the third year in a row and will be leveraging its role as the official World Diabetes Day off-road race car to raise awareness of the growing threat of diabetes in Mexico.
The team, consisting of high tech professionals based in Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley, California, is third in class and 24th overall in the Southern Nevada Off Road Race Enthusiasts desert race series and is making its third run at the Baja 1000, a 1000 kilometer race through the deserts of Baja California.
The Dingos have several diabetes awareness projects for 2009:
- The team is distributing hero cards printed in English and Spanish with the warning signs of diabetes printed on the back.
- In partnership with 12seconds.tv, the team is encouraging people to record 12-second-long video public service announcements on their experiences with diabetes.
- The Dingos teamed with local graphic artist Bubba Shelby to create super hero The Blue Circle. People can download copies of the Blue Circle for children to color with crayons here.
- Twitter users who post a tweet using the hash tags #WDD09 and #DesertDingo will have their Twitter nicknames and messages carried in the Desert Dingo race car during the Baja 1000.
The team will be live-blogging and Twittering in advance of and during the race, which takes place Nov. 20-21. Their website is http://www.desertdingo.com and you can contact them by emailing team co-founder Jim Graham at jim@desertdingo.com.
