World Diabetes Day theme selected for next five years
The International Diabetes Federation has chosen an umbrella theme for World Diabetes Day to cover the five-year period from 2009 to 2013:
Boston Scientific announces WDD partnership
Boston Scientific, one of the blue circle partners of the World Diabetes Day 2008 campaign, officially announced its sponsorship at the recent EuroPCR Scientific Program in Barcelona, Spain.
In a press release issued for the occasion, David Macfaul, Boston Scientifc Senior Vice President International, said that the company was,“proud to support the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in its efforts to build awareness around this devastating disease that affects millions of people worldwide.”
WDD Bike conquers Rally of Tunisia
Youcef Cummings, the Australian cross-country rally rider piloting the World Diabetes Day bike and raising money for the International Diabetes Federation's Life for a Child Program, completed his first challenge of the year by finishing an excellent 10th place in the gruelling Rally of Tunisia, which took place on 23 April-4 May.
Greater Toronto geocaching event raises awareness of diabetes
In Canada, several hundred people attended the Greater Toronto GeoBASH 2008, the largest geocaching event ever to take place in Ontario, on 3-4 May. Supported by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the event featured a variety of geocaches to find (including the World Diabetes Day geocoin), several new and creative GPS activities to enjoy, camping, a car rally, registration gifts and prizes for everyone.
