WDD bike successfully completes another challenge!
Youcef Cummings, the Australian motorcycle enthusiast raising awareness of diabetes and World Diabetes Day in cross-country championship rallys, has successfully completed his second race of 2008. Following on from the 10th place finish in the Rally of Tunisia in April, Youcef finished 13th overall (5th in his class) in the Dubai Desert Challenge, held on October 24-31. Another wonderful achievement.

Novartis bringing diabetes to light on November 14
Novartis, an official World Diabetes Day 2008 partner, and its affiliates around the world will be holding a variety of activities to mark World Diabetes Day this year.
At the company headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, featured activities include the blue lighting of the entrance building to the Novartis campus, and the cooking of a healthy meal involving the company chef, 24 school children from the city, and local politicians dealing with or interested in healthcare issues.

United Nations to light up for diabetes
The International Diabetes Federation is proud to announce that the United Nations will light its New York Headquarters in blue to mark World Diabetes Day 2008.
This is a first for the United Nations. While in the past the organization has lit particular offices to spell out messages, most notably its own anniversary and 'I (heart) NY', never before has the UN lit to address a specific cause.

11-year-old Haley leads the way
Haley May was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June 2007. She is clearly not someone to let the diagnosis of diabetes stand in her way. Back in March this year, 11-year-old Haley added the State of Florida to the list of US state governments to recognize World Diabetes Day (November 14). She asked her state representative to recognize World Diabetes Day. On March 24, Haley gave a speech to the Florida Health Care Council about the effects of Diabetes. Over 300 people attended the meeting to hear her speak.

Boston Scientific to blue-beautify its website
Official World Diabetes Day Partner Boston Scientific Corporation is going to turn its website blue for World Diabetes Day November 14. The WDD Partner has developed a dedicated page to promote activities and has been instrumental in securing a Proclamation from the State of Minnesota to support World Diabetes Day 2008.

Desert Dingo provide hands-on diabetes lesson to schoolchildren
Desert Dingo Racing, the team who have entered the official World Diabetes Day race car in the Baja 1000 off-road race later this month, recently took the car to Holly Oak Elementary School in San Jose, California to give the children a hands-on lesson in desert racing. Students in Ms. Battistella's fourth grade class got the opportunity to add a little colour to the car, dipping their hands in red, blue or gold paint and pressing them to the car's fenders.

Jay-Jay inspiring action to fight diabetes in the UK
Jay-Jay has type 1 diabetes. On the 14th November, the 12-year-old takes on a 20-mile bike ride as his way of supporting the 2008 World Diabetes Day campaign.
Jay-Jay has not had it all easy with his Diabetes. He was misdiagnosed at onset and suffered diabetic Ketoacidosis. It has been difficult for him at school due to a serious lack of understanding and a failure to provide the support needed to help him manage his diabetes. To cap it all, no matter how hard he tries, Jay-Jay just can’t seem to get his levels under control. He will soon apply for funding for a pump.
