Desert Dingos challenge San Felipe 250 and plan rather unique photo shoot
Desert Dingo Racing recently made its second foray to Mexico to race the San Felipe 250 and spread the word about diabetes awareness. The team is now planning a rather unique photo shoot that includes an airport runway, a boom truck and 25 pounds of whole wheat flour.
In mid-March the team traveled to San Felipe, on the east coast of Baja California, to race the San Felipe 250 - a course for whoops, silt and creosote bushes.

Banting House first landmark to join 2008 Monument Challenge!
The Banting House National Historic Site of Canada has become the first global landmark to join the World Diabetes Day 2008 Monument Challenge. The building, located in London, Ontario, Canada and known as 'The birthplace of insulin', will light up in blue for the whole month of November to mark Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day. WDD bike races through the deserts of the world
An Australian rider, Youcef Cummings, is piloting the World Diabetes Day motorcycle, which will compete in World Cross Country Rally events and other regional events throughout Africa and the Middle East in 2008.
Youcef plans to compete in four races during the year. The first race will take place in Tunisia on 23 April and will be staged through the deserts of Tunisia and Libya, starting in Marseilles, France.

Desert Dingo rides again
Desert Dingo Racing will be riding again throughout 2008 to raise awareness of diabetes and World Diabetes Day. The team consist of professionals based in Silicon Valley, California. They have come together to drive diabetes awareness by competing in desert racing in their World Diabetes Day branded Class 11 Volkswagen Beetle.
The WDD bug bravely entered the 40th edition of the gruelling Baja 1000 last November.

WDD Monument Challenge a resounding success!
The World Diabetes Day 2007 Monument Challenge, which encouraged landmarks around the world to light up in the colour of the World Diabetes Day logo on 14 November, exceeded all expectations. Over 320 monuments and other buildings all over the globe rose to the challenge and lit up in blue as beacons of hope for the 246 million people living with diabetes. IDF thanks all those individuals and associations that contributed to securing a blue lighting in their area, making the success of this initiative possible.

London Eye first to light up the skyline!
On 9 November, the British Airways London Eye and Shell Tower became the first of the world's iconic landmarks to light up in blue to mark the first United Nations World Diabetes Day.

Banting Cairn to light up in blue for World Diabetes Day
In Canada, the 5 ton, globe-shaped Cairn which is located at the front of the farm where Sir Frederick Banting was born on November 14 1891 will be illuminated by a blue ring of lights to mark the first United Nations observed World Diabetes Day. The Cairn represents the impact of the discovery of insulin on world health.
Frederick Banting's birthplace is located in the town of New Tecumseth (formerly Alliston) Ontario.

Get your World Diabetes Day geocoins!
The World Diabetes Day geocoins are now available! These limited edition commemorative coins mark the passage of UN resolution 61/225 and the first United Nations observed World Diabetes Day. Each WDD 2007 geocoin aims to draw attention to the 246 million people affected by diabetes worldwide. Its mission is to travel the globe spreading diabetes awareness.
